April 14. 1995. The Canyon Road overpass at 512. A vehicle had broken down in the south bound lanes on the overpass blocking traffic. Bystanders and other drivers stopped to push the car off of the overpass. An impatient drunk driver decided to hit the accelerator plowing into cars on the overpass, hitting the people helping to moving the car, severely injuring four and killing one. The DUI driver continued into the northbound lanes hitting more automobiles and killing one driver. Central Pierce Fire and Rescue responded to the scene along with several private ambulances and airlift helicopters. The Washington State Patrol and the Pierce County Sheriff investigated the accident. An unedited copy of this video was provided to the State Patrol. There was no trial. The driver plead guilty.
